El año 2013 fue declarado el Año Internacional de la Cooperación en la Esfera del Agua por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, el vital líquido es necesario para cuestiones de vida, sanitarias y producción de alimentos o energía, el buen uso de este recurso, es una lucha constante contra la escasez y la garantía de una distribución equitativa a toda la población.
En Nuevo León, gracias a la campaña “Ándale, Así Si”, diseñada por el departamento de Cultura del Agua de Servicios de Agua y Drenaje Monterrey (SADM), en la actualidad miles de niños y adultos aprendieron a cuidar el vital liquido, ya sea, en la escuela, parques, casas o centros de trabajo.
Fue tanto el éxito de la campaña de “Ándale Así Si”, que la frase llegó para quedarse en toda la entidad y con esto la concientización del buen uso del agua.
Asimismo, campañas como la actual denominada “La Liga del Agua”, vinculada a “Ándale así, Si”, muestran la fortaleza de los regiomontanos en su lucha por cuidar uno de los recursos más importantes en la Tierra.
Cabe destacar que Nuevo León es una de las entidades que se encuentra fuera de los índices del desabasto del vital líquido en México.
Haciendo una comparación a nivel mundial las cifras son alarmantes y desalentadoras ya que 1 mil millones de personas no poseen acceso al agua potable y cerca de 1.5 millones de niños mueren anualmente por consumir agua contaminada.
La falta de agua es la segunda causa de muerte infantil en el mundo. Si bien el agua, tanto superficial como subterránea, ocupa el 70 por ciento de la Tierra, sólo el 2 por ciento de ese total es potable, apta para el consumo humano.
No obstante, cada vez son más los países que frente a la falta de reservas hídricas incursionan en la costosa industria de la desalinización del agua de mar, y en algunos de los casos están copiando el modelo que realiza Servicios de Agua y Drenaje de Monterrey para reducir el gasto innecesario del agua y fomentar su cuidado.
