La Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) puso en marcha el Centro de Investigación en Biotecnología y Nanotecnología (CIBYN), para atender problemas de salud, energía y medio ambiente, entre otros.
Entre su infraestructura, destaca el Laboratorio de Biología Sintética y de Sistemas, primer espacio de su tipo en la zona noreste de México con estas especialidades y único en el país en donde existe una cooperación transversal y una completa colaboración con investigadores del área de nanotecnología.
El nuevo inmueble de la UANL está ubicado en el Parque de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica (PIIT), en el municipio de Apodaca. Será una plataforma científica e innovadora interdisciplinaria en biotecnología y nanotecnología que estará al alcance de investigadores y estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias Químicas.
“La puesta en marcha de este centro es una muestra clara de que en la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León reconocemos que la tendencia de la educación superior es precisamente hacia una universidad innovadora, basada en la investigación como su principal eje de desarrollo”, resaltó el Rector Rogelio Garza Rivera.
En el CIBYN también se ofrecerán servicios técnicos, consultoría y asesoría de apoyo a la industria química, farmacéutica, alimentaria, cosmética, ambiental y de salud.
La inversión del centro fue de alrededor de 160 millones de pesos en un terreno de más de seis mil metros cuadrados de construcción.
El proyecto final contempla un edificio de cuatro niveles y 20 laboratorios; este 7 de noviembre se pusieron en operaciones dos niveles, nueve laboratorios especializados, la biblioteca, el auditorio, el área administrativa y siete cubículos para investigadores y 23 para estudiantes, entre otras áreas.
“La razón por la cual se crea este centro es para desarrollar proyectos de investigación multidisciplinarios, que se conviertan en los pilares fundamentales para la solución de los problemas y retos globales del sector de la medicina, energía, transporte, medio ambiente, alimentario, entre otros”, detalló el Director de la Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, Eduardo Soto Regalado.
De acuerdo con el Coordinador del Centro de Investigación en Biotecnología y Nanotecnología de la UANL, José Rubén Morones Ramírez, en el inmueble se desarrollará ciencia básica y aplicada, y tendrán como base a alrededor de 18 investigadores de la Facultad de Ciencias Químicas.
El CIBYN fue inaugurado en el marco del Primer Congreso Internacional de NanoBioIngeniería. El corte del listón lo realizó el Rector Rogelio Garza Rivera y el Director de la Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, Eduardo Soto Regalado, así como otras autoridades universitarias.
Este importante Centro de Investigación consta de las siguientes áreas:

-Nanotecnología
-Nanomateriales opto-electrónicos
