La Asociación Mexicana de Secretarios de Desarrollo Agropecuario (AMSDA) manifestó que este año el país se consolidará como la gran potencia agroalimentaria que es en el mundo, lo que se traducirá en un mayor crecimiento del Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) de este sector en la economía nacional, aumento de las exportaciones con la diversificación de mercados, una mejor balanza comercial del ramo y expectativas favorables al crecer la demanda de los productos mexicanos.
Héctor Padilla Gutiérrez, presidente de la AMSDA y titular de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Rural de Jalisco, consideró que en 2018 continuará el éxito internacional de la agricultura mexicana que en la actualidad exporta a 160 países, principalmente aguacate, chile verde, calabaza y otros productos que lo han colocado en la posición 12 de las naciones más productoras y en la décima más exportadora en el planeta.
Las consideraciones de Padilla incluyen que en México se impulsará más a la agricultura familiar, el pastoreo y las pequeñas explotaciones agrícolas como prácticas que contribuyen a lograr la seguridad 
alimentaria y la mejora de la nutrición, a fin de que lo interno se avance en la erradicación de la pobreza y el hambre, así como la conservación de la biodiversidad.
Con respecto a Jalisco que es el Gigante Agroalimentario de México, dijo que se muestra como el ejemplo de que en el país se está consolidado un sector rural moderno y más productivo, que participa en el desarrollo de las diversas regiones del país, ya que la entidad mantiene una gran diversidad de cultivos, actividades pecuarias y piscícolas todo el año, al grado de que su producción posiciona al Estado como referencia nacional en las principales cadenas productivas y con exportaciones a 80 países del orbe.
