Como la segunda institución educativa más sustentable de México, así se posiciona la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León de acuerdo al Ranking Mundial de Universidades GreenMetric.
Por quinto año consecutivo, la Máxima Casa de Estudios de Nuevo León se ubica dentro de las 80 instituciones educativas, públicas y privadas más verdes del mundo, junto a otras universidades como Oxford, Bradford y Nottingham.
Para el año 2016, el ranking mundial coloca a la UANL en el sitio 77 de un total de 516 universidades de 74 países del mundo.
“Hoy en día somos el ejemplo a seguir a nivel nacional, nos han invitado de universidades privadas para que demos conferencias y les platiquemos sobre cómo le hemos hecho”, señaló el Secretario de Investigación, Innovación y Sustentabilidad de la UANL, Sergio Fernández Delgadillo.
La evaluación se realiza en base a las acciones llevadas a cabo en las áreas de infraestructura y asentamiento, energía y cambio climático, gestión de residuos, uso del agua, movilidad sustentable y educación.
En la Universidad se realizan diversos programas que contribuyen al uso eficiente de agua y energía, así como el manejo apropiado de residuos reciclables y peligrosos. También se llevan a cabo campañas comunicación y difusión sustentable para concientizar a la comunidad universitaria.
En la clasificación por indicadores de las 516 instituciones del GreenMetric, la UANL se ubica en el lugar 45 en infraestructura verde y en la posición 67 en educación sustentable. En el ranking global, la UANL subió dos posiciones en comparación al 2015.
“La sustentabilidad cuenta con factores como el desarrollo económico y el desarrollo social, además del ambiental.
“En la Universidad adecuamos los programas educativos y le sugerimos al profesor que cuando hable del Producto Interno Bruto, por ejemplo, que haga énfasis que ese es un tema donde también se encuentra la sustentabilidad”, explicó Fernández Delgadillo.
Con 5 mil 950 puntos (un 59.50 por ciento de cumplimiento de acuerdo a los indicadores del ranking), a diciembre de 2016 la UANL es la institución educativa más verde del norte de México y la segunda del país; solo por debajo de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
El resultado de la UANL se suma al reconocimiento otorgado por la Coordinación Nacional de la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas para el Cambio Climático.
“Invito a la comunidad que a que se sumen, que cada vez que vean que tenemos un evento orientado a este asunto, participen y se incluyan, para convertirnos en una sociedad que piensa verde, que actúa verde y que además se lleva la cultura para derramarla en el resto de la sociedad”, señaló el Secretario.
El Ranking Mundial de Universidades GreenMetric se estableció en el 2010 por la Universidad de Indonesia. Este ranking evalúa los esfuerzos que realizan las universidades del mundo para promover la sustentabilidad en sus campus.
La UANL forma parte del ranking desde hace cinco años. De 2012 al 2016, la Máxima Casa de Estudios ha subido 52 posiciones, actualmente ubicándose en el lugar 77.
Promoverá UANL movilidad sustentable
La Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, a través de la Secretaría de Investigación, Innovación y Sustentabilidad, podrá en marcha un proyecto de movilidad sustentable.
Los trabajos consistirán en la construcción de un circuito dentro de Ciudad Universitaria con andadores peatonales.
“Se trata de que no entren muchos automóviles a Ciudad Universitaria, que pasen solo por afuera y que los estudiantes caminen por dentro.
“Sería una enorme ventaja quitarle todo ese tráfico que tiene la avenida Pedro de Alba y la avenida de Los Rectores (…) el propósito es hacer más áreas verdes con bancas y lugares para que los estudiantes puedan estar”, aseguró el Secretario Sergio Fernández Delgadillo.
Los planes del proyecto iniciaron hace dos años con el apoyo de las facultades de Arquitectura, Ingeniería Civil y Ciencias Biológicas.

- En los últimos seis años la población estudiantil de la UANL incrementó poco más del 45 por ciento, sin embargo, el consumo de energía no sufrió un aumento.
- Gracias al Programa de uso eficiente y sustentable del agua, en la UANL se redujo el consumo per cápita del vital líquido, con un consumo de 13.5 m3 en 2011 a 9.5 m3 de agua en 2015.
- A través del Programa de Separación y Reciclaje de Residuos (PROSER), de febrero 2013 a junio 2016 se han reciclado en la UANL más de 204 toneladas de materiales como plástico, aluminio, papel y cartón.
- La Máxima Casa de Estudios cuenta con 74 asociaciones estudiantiles que realizan acciones y proyectos vinculados con el desarrollo sustentable.
- La UANL tiene bajo su resguardo un área superior a los 26 millones de m2, ocupada con vegetación original, en donde se almacenan más de 119 mil toneladas de carbono, logrando 366 millones 354 mil kg de CO2 equivalente a favor.
- Desde el 2008 la Universidad colabora en la conservación de la Selva Lacandona, una de las áreas ecológicas más importantes de México y Mesoamérica.
